Overview
An individual data visualisation project completed in the role of visual analyst for a firm entering the U.S. mutual fund market. The brief required building a full interactive dashboard suite in Tableau to support a strategic proposal for the company's first mutual fund launch, backed by an analytical report and technical documentation.
What I did
- •Analysed the broader U.S. mutual fund landscape - fund categories, sizes, common investment strategies, and top-performing fund families - via an interactive market overview dashboard, including risk-vs-return performance analysis
- •Benchmarked candidate fund families and specific mutual funds against the proposed fund on performance history, risk and expense ratios, and assets under management, incorporating time-series visualisations and statistical analysis of historical prices, plus scenario/stress testing across market conditions
- •Explored global sector and geographic market trends, macro indicators, and ESG factors to justify the proposed fund's investment strategy and target investor base, presenting ESG scores and classifications
- •Developed a marketing and distribution strategy dashboard covering distribution channels, potential partners, and the fund's competitive positioning
- •Built each dashboard with interactive filtering, calculated fields, parameters, and multiple chart types tailored to a management audience, applying core data visualisation principles around clarity, purpose, and audience-fit
- •Wrote an Analytical and Discussion Report explaining each dashboard's visualisations, data sources, key calculations, and insights, supported by academic references
- •Produced a Technical Manual documenting the Tableau workbook construction - calculated fields, filters, parameters, forecasting methods, and interactive elements - with step-by-step screenshots for replication
